Above the Trenches What? Why? Design Parameters The Counters Bloody April |
What's This All About, Then? For many years now I've been designing a game about World War 1 airplanes named Above the Trenches. What makes my effort different than most is that it's not concerned with individual dogfights or even squadron-level actions, but rather in recreating the entire war in the air. Er, truth in advertising: well, at least the entire western front from 1916-1918. Hence my references hereabouts to "strategic level", as opposed to the tactical minutae of the individual aircraft. (Not that the tactics are uninteresting, but there are already plenty of games covering the subject.) Unfortunately, though I once thought that it was pretty close to done, I have since decided that I'm not satisfied with the simulation value of the design as is. So I'm going to redesign it from the ground up. I thought it might be interesting to post my thoughts as I do. This will give those interested an ongoing status report, and give me an opportunity to organize my thoughts a bit. I certainly welcome feedback, either via email or at my ConsimWorld Blog.
